Chubb History

Thomas Caldecot Chubb and his son Percy started the company in 1982 by beginning an underwriting company in a quiet part of New York. The two managed to call on 1,000 merchants in the area to collect $1,000 all of which went towards insuring cargo and ships in the area. This was the start of their business. The two worked with different agents and brokers in the insurance world to form different relationships that they could use. These relationships were the basis for Chubb Underwriters, as the different agents and brokers referred their clients to the company. Though the Chubb Corporation was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1984, it was actually officially formed in 1967. Today the company is one of the most traded insurance organizations in the United States, based on their overall revenue. In North America, Europe, South America, and the Pacific Rim the company employs almost 12,000 employees. They also use over 8,000 independent agents and brokers located around the world to keep the company functioning worldwide.
